View From Balcony Casitas Rosheli 2

Good Accomodation La Palma

Whilst not a definitive list of all the accommodation we have stayed at in La Palma, here are two of the places we think deserve a special mention because they are either so good, or incredibly good value for money.

Casitas Rosheli, Los Llanos

I don’t normally comment a huge amount about our accommodation, but couldn’t not in the case of Casitas Rosheli. We stayed here for a week, up in the hills just above Los Llanos de Aridane. We chose to go there based on the suitable glowing reviews on booking.com, and the fact that it was also very reasonably priced. The reviews didn’t do it justice; it’s probably the best place I’ve ever stayed. Not in terms of being posh or high end or anything like that- but wow, the views! They were just spectacular. I spent hours on the balcony, literally just gazing into the distance. It was hard to know which direction to look at first, it was just a panoramic kaleidoscope of colours and all round beautiful-ness everywhere you looked. It was so peaceful too, barely a sound other than the occasional dog barking or cockerel doing its stuff in a nearby farmyard.

The apartment itself was clean and spacious with masses of storage space. The beds were very comfy too, and there is a heater and extra blankets if you get cold. The kitchen was well equipped, and we were treated to a free bottle of wine and some Canarian bananas on our arrival. Kelly, the host, showed us round the place and couldn’t have been more helpful, giving us loads of useful information. The owners are environmentally conscious too, hot water provided by a solar battery, and drinkable cold water straight off the mountain. The owners encourage, and provide facilities for recycling too. Orange and papaya trees surround the swimming pool (unheated and cold in January but a few brave souls went in), the owners are happy for you to pick fruit from these when in season, and provide you with a blender in your apartment if you fancy making your own smoothie.

Given that it is at the top of a steep hill, a car is probably advisable, although Los Llanos is walkable, approximately 15 minutes downhill/25 minutes uphill to the centre.

In summary I would and will seriously recommend this place to anyone heading to La Palma. For the price you are simply not going to find anything better.

Aparthotel El Galeón, Santa Cruz De La Palma

Perched on top of a hill overlooking the port of Santa Cruz La Palma, the Aparthotel El Galeón deserves a special mentiom.

Booked off season through booking.com, the apartments in this hotel were very reasonably priced- from memory around 45 Euros a night on a self catering basis (half board and breakfast only option also available). For this, you get a large, spacious and airy apartment with separate bedroom, living room area and large kitchen. The kitchen was very well equiped, even having an oven, which is very unusal for most holiday lets. The bathroom also had a bath as well as a shower, again a rarety when on holiday. A small balcony gave you views of the sea to the side. If travelling with a car, it also has its own underground car park. It struck us that you got a lot more for your money than a lot of places we have stayed in.

More From La Palma

Los Llanos

Staying in Los Llanos De Aaridane again. This is I think our favourite town in the Canary Islands. So laid back.

Whale Watching Tazacorte

Went whale watching today. Loved the first hour. Felt sea sick, still feel like I'm going up and down with the boat on dry land.

Fuencaliente To Los Llanos De Aridance Walk

It was a bus from Los Llanos to Los Canarios today to climb up a hill at the end. Too cloudy up top though so we walked back, 25km; my feet hurt!

Los Cancajos Snorkelling

This was a surprise, this is a great place to snorkel, red crabs on the rocks.

Los Cancajos

Staying in a winter retirement village for few day, and boy do we feel young!

Tazacorte And Snorkelling

Sea is quite calm here today but the water is still too murky to see anything much snorkelling.

Caldera De Taburiente Walk

Didn't do the caldera walk last year, came back to do it this year. Well worth it. Earned a beer!

Good Accomodation La Palma

Found a couple of great apartments in La Palma, and few bad ones.

El Pilar Walk

quick strole in the hills now, well that was the plan, turned into quite a hike.
