Cala Blanca Swim

Calla Blanca

Cala Blanca is a small resort on the west side of Menorca, just south of the city of Cuitadella. Its made up of a couple of beaches,a few all inclusive hotels, a couple of self-catering apartments and a few shops and restaurants, and I think, one Irish bar. If you're looking for somewhere with lively entertainment and lots of things to do, this isn't the place to go. That said, its a nice, pretty place, the beaches are narrow but very appealing, and if you've got a sense of adventure (which I haven't) you can tombstone off the cliffs all around. Watching the local kids as young as 6 throw themselves off the rocks into the sea made me realise just what a risk averse coward I am- to be fair, at the time I was working in Health and Safety!

Due to the presence of so many all-inclusive hotels, eating out was very limited in the resort itself. I think from memory there was a chinese restaurant, one cafe, a really nice pizza restaurant (Restaurante Miramar) looking over the sea, and a slightly posher spanish place round the corner. The pizza place was always packed, the chinese restaurant always empty.

That said, the lovely city of Cuitadella was only a couple of miles away. Great place, nice shops and restaurants and a great hippy market- I'm not sure if this is a regular event in the town or whether we were just lucky.

Most notable events of the holiday- a dead body washing up on the beach- the locals were very relaxed about it. Just chucked a tarpaulin over the deceased, called the police and went about their daily business as usual. Perhaps jumping off cliffs isn't as safe after all. The other was my son getting a chronic tummy bug, it might have something to do with the lump of turd floating in the apartment pool we saw later in the day. It did make us question how clean the water was, and has put me off swimming in hotel pools ever since.

The other thing I learnt from this holiday, is never ever stay in an apartment, in our case the Sa Caleta apartment complex, without air conditioning in the middle of a mediterranean summer again. I had 3 cold showers every night and I still couldn't sleep. I'm sure it would be fine though at the beginning/end of the summer season. Apart from that, it was a nice relaxing holiday!

Some serious jelly fish here today, big sting on the arm, warned some posh chaps, they ignored me :) silly buggers. Still this a great place to snorkel.

Cala San Vincente Snorkelling

We got a bit bored so wandered over the hill to Cala San Vincente for a swim instead. It is wonderful. Deep clear blue water.

Ses Illetes Snorkelling

Got the number 3 bus whilst the rest of the gang went shopping, I went swimming. It's 40 degrees, Swimming! This is a fabulous spot to Snorkel. Had to wander round an army check point to get to the best spot.

Palma

In Palma, the capital of Majorca a vibrant interesting and beautiful city with ports, beaches and great shopping apparently, but I want to go swimming.

Palma Snorkelling

Fantastic city, lots to see and do, OK swimming and snorkelling

Alcudia

Always a good spot to visit, an interesting old walled town, with good shops and restaurants. Having said that we just had a butty.

Alcudia Snorkelling

Bus to Alcudia, 20 minute walk to bays to the the North. Good snorkelling. Walked back to Puerto Pollenca. Cold Lager required.

Boquer Valley Snorkelling

Calm as it gets here in the Boquer today, perfect for a dip. Few jellies around and lots of fish, water is crystal clear. German lady got a leg sting, big screams.

Boquer Valley Walking

Longish hot walk along the Boquer valley today. The ridge to the left is amazing. Greeted by old goats at the end and into the water to cool off.

Formentor Snorkelling

We took a vastly overpriced boat to Formentor beach today, I'm still shaking at having to part with so much for so little. Still the snorkelling is good. Got the bus back!

Cala Blanca Snorkelling

Swam from one bay to another - but dumb really - boss not happy - in the dog house.

Son Catlar

Colonia Sant Jordi

Colonia Sant Jordi! This place feels more Spanish than most resorts in Majorca, NO CHIP shops. Great beaches, very relaxed.

Colonia Sant Jordi Snorkelling

Some great snorkelling here, but the best spots take a bit of finding. Swimming ia great all over, with lots of sandy beaches and quite shallow for in most places.
