Peurto Pollenca Snorkelling

It is obvious from the moment you get there that this is a very save place for a swim with very easy access along the whole 2 miles of beach. On the pine walk side of Puerto Pollenca there are many little sandy bays, which are particularly suitable for very young children as it is easy to keep an eye on them and the water is usually very calm.
On the other side of the bay there are two artificial rock breaks in the sea also making for very calm safe areas to swim. Around these breaks there are large shoals of fish, big and small so these are good for a quick snorkel.
There is more than you might think on in the in the water on the Pine Walk side of the Peurto Pollenca bay. Everywhere you swim you will come across large Sea Bass and Sea Bream as well as other smaller shoals of fish. Also in this area I have found two sunken boats, they are hard to find, but once you do they are worth looking around as they are colonised with all manner of life. Just before the Illa d’or hotel you can swim out and you will find some sand and weed banks and in these banks you will find these very large upright shells, I’m not sure what they are called but they remind me of a scene from Alien. There is a picture of two below.
It is not a brilliant place to snorkel but is certainly worth getting in the water.
The Scuba dive shops in Peurto Pollnca, near the harbour also offer snorkel trips, but I have to say I was nor greatly impressed, you would do better getting the boat to Formentor beach or a bus to Cala San Vincente.
