We walked and I snorked all over the island of Skiathos. The beach in front of our apartment (1) I thought was good enough, but it turns out this was far from the best. It became a morning wake up ritual to have a quick dip here instead of a shower in the morning and then my coffee. To the far end of this beach there is the peninsular (3) which takes you round to Skiathos town, I swam around this and into the town of Skiathos. It is well worth doing plenty to see underwater, including an octopus and a few eels. In the town itself there is small tree covered promontory, this is also a great spot for a bit of deep water snorkelling, if you have some time to kill whilst in town and have done all the gift shopping you can tolerate (5 minutes in my case).

If you feel so inclined you can also have a dip at the end of the airport runway (5), a true experience when a plane takes off.

A boat trip from Skiathos town takes you to Tsougria island (4), this place is stunning, it is a fabulous beach with beautiful clear water. Snorkelling here I chanced upon a bait ball of fish being attacked by tuna, tuna move so fast.

At the other end of the island there are some beautiful walks (4) through the woods to other more remote bays (1) and (2). Depending on the weather of the day it may be choppy in these bays. They are unspoilt and have great snorkelling in clear water.

Troulos beach (3) is also a great place to snorkel and if you feel so inclined, to swim over to the small island off its coast. I would not recommend this unless you are a very good swimmer and you must keep an eye out for boats
